For those of you who’ve been here since our first newsletter, you know that after travelling around Mexico and New York last year, we developed a bit of an obsession with Tacos.
We love nothing more than a fresh corn tortilla with delicious fillings and some spicy salsa, which is why we were excited when we discovered that CDMX Tacos had opened up in Soho, London!
After trying it out last weekend, we thought it would be the perfect place to kick-start our series on London Restaurant reviews. Every time we post a full review on the website, we’ll send a short update on this newsletter with the key points of each restaurant.
See our full review of CDMX Tacos on the website here.
Ambience & Atmosphere
It’s a lively and intimate setting, with standing counters only. They’ve clearly drawn inspiration from Los Tacos No. 1 in New York and Taquería Orinoco in Mexico City.
It does make you feel like you're in a genuine taqueria, which we appreciate, and the restaurant is filled with the smell of fresh corn tortillas.
The Food
The tortillas themselves are exceptional. We learnt that tacos in Mexico are less about the fillings and more about the tortillas and CDMX Tacos nail them, the pleasant smell hits you as soon as you walk in.
The menu has three main options:
Beef (Asada)
Pork (Al Pastor, Chicharron)
Cactus (Nopal)
We tried the normal tacos and a quesadilla and thought the flavours were okay, but the meat was way too chewy, to the point that they were hard to eat.
They serve a green and red salsa, both okay but lacking the extra kick you would expect at a real taquería.

The Drinks
CDMX Tacos serve an authentic collection of Mexican drinks, including soft drinks like Jarritos, Victoria beer and the famed Mexican Coke.
(Note: Mexican Coke is the same as UK Coke but different from USA Coke. It’s just served in a small glass bottle).
Value for Money
At £5 per taco, it’s pricy for a traditionally inexpensive meal which still has some flaws.
To fill yourself up with a drink, you’ll spend around £20-25, which is a lot for tacos!
Final Thoughts
They’ve nailed the aesthetic and feel of a busy taquería, but for the price, we think they just need to improve the quality of their fillings before we start raving about it to everyone we know!
